Mountain Biking
Most of our guests who come here to cycle normally use us as a base for the purpose built Afon Argoed MTB centre,
(Afon Forest Park - link to info & maps of the trails found there). You can also get loads of information on Mountain
biking in Wales on the MBWales website.
Local Tracks. (Please note we cannot be held responsible for the accuracy of these routes).
Route 1
- This track is local to the bunkhouse - take a map
difficulty: Medium to Hard distance: about 15 miles

- From Clyngwyn head up the lane to the junction with the B4242 and turn right towards Ystradfellte and follow the B4242.
Just after the Rhos stores and filling station on the left hand side turn left into Heol Fawr Farm, (the farmer is Mr. Trevor Davies), ride through his farm and join the bridle path at the end of his drive, (through the farm gate). - Follow this path until it joins the B road just before the picnic area turn right over the bridge. Keep to this road ignoring the no through road signs as it climbs up through the forest.
- At the end of the mettled track keep right and ride over the cattle grid.
Follow the track on up through the forest staying on the obvious main track and don't deviate down any fire breaks.
At the end of this track you will come to a T junction at Sarn Helen. - Turn right and ride through the farm gate.
- Follow Sarn Helen to the ford of the river at Coed y Garreg farm
- Cross the ford and continue up Sarn Helen until you reach a farm gate where the track reaches the mettled road.
- Turn right along the road and over the cattle grid.
- Carry on along this road until it turns sharp right through an open gate.
- Leave the road at this point and ride straight on up the byway towards Ystradfellte.
- Eventually ride through a farm gate and into Ystradfellte, joining a mettled road to the New Inn pub.
- Turn right at the pub and follow the road up for about half a mile to a left turn.
- Take the left turn and follow the road down to Porth -yr Ogof Caves car park.
- Just before the car park, turn right onto a marked bridleway and follow it until it reaches the road.
- Turn right and follow the road half a mile back to Clyngwyn.
